Buffalo Narrows, SK

Great news!  Late yesterday afternoon I confirmed with the person whom I believed was the individual who had been in contact with the person (a non-resident of northern Saskatchewan) who had tested positive with the COVID 19 virus that her test had just come back negative.

Coincidentally, in follow-up from the morning call from the health department a doctor called at 5:00 pm for follow-up and when I informed her that I had figured out who the person providing my name was and that she had just tested negative, the Doctor re-assessed my situation.  Based on this new information she concluded that I should now go to self-monitoring, keeping a daily log of my temperature and any other changes in my health, such as new cough, runny nose, hard time breathing or fever.  If any of the symptoms occur, she advised that I should then go from self-monitoring back to self-isolation.

In an abundance of caution, I will continue with self-isolation for at least the next week and ensure that none of these symptoms occur  and for the security of persons who would otherwise come into contact with me.  I had already been practicing social distancing for the past two weeks and staying at home, and for those very few people who did have contact with me over the previous 3 – 4 days, you can be rest assured that you are in no danger of having come into contact with the virus.

I thank all of those who contacted me or the MNC Facebook page and wished me well and offered prayers.  To the post stating “better safe than sorry”, very true and again, I encourage all Métis Nation citizens, and indeed all Canadians to respect and adhere to all of the advice being provided by the medical community in order to keep our people and country safe.

Clément Chartier QC

President
